Personal Biography-
Chief Gerrity began his
career in law enforcement in May 1973, when he was hired as
a part-time police officer with the Archbald Borough Police
Department. In May 1978, Chief Gerrity accepted a full-time
position with the South Abington Township Police Department,
serving as a patrolman until 1991. In June, 1991, he was
promoted to the position of Chief of Police, and continues
to serve in that capacity today.
Chief Gerrity is a graduate
of Valley View High School, and a 1976 graduate of the
University of Scranton, where he earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in Sociology. In 1978, Chief Gerrity
completed the Municipal Police Officer's Training and
Education Commission ACT 120 program at Lackawanna Jr.
College, and was recipient of the High Academic Award. Chief
Gerrity completed the Penn State University Police Executive
Institute in 1993, and has attended numerous advanced
training classes and seminars throughout his law enforcement
career.
Chief Gerrity is a founding
member of the Lackawanna County Chief's of Police
Association, and is currently serving his fifth term as
president of the Association. In preceding years, he has
also held the offices of vice-president, secretary, and
treasurer. In July 2004, Chief Gerrity was elected to a
three year term on the Executive Board of the Pennsylvania
Chiefs' of Police Association. He serves on the Legislative
Committee of the Pennsylvania Chiefs' of Police, and had
previously served on the statewide Education and Training
Committee. Additionally, Chief Gerrity is a member of the
Executive Committee of the Northeast Pennsylvania Chiefs' of
Police Association, is on the Board of Directors of EMS of
Northeast Pennsylvania, is Chairman of the Lackawanna County
Drug Task Force Board of Chiefs', and serves as
Administrative Commander of the Lackawanna County DTF SWAT
team. He is also an active member of the Blue Knights
International Police Motorcycle Club, Pa. Chapter VI.
